Mahalakshmi is in 9th Standard. She joined the Dharavi team because she likes football and running. Although she had not playing football on a team before, she does play carrom board. She comes to practice every day. Her favorite drills include dribbling and heading. She would love to play a real match soon! At school, Mahalakshmi’s best subject is math. In her free time she likes to watch cartoon movies. In the future, she wants to work in a beauty parlor and visit America.
Reality Gives is so happy to get great hard working volunteers on board from time to time. They always do a little bit more than expected!
Laura for example who was in Mumbai in June to research for a Mobile English Language Learning Programme did also a great job creating profiles on our YEP students. Rose who is currently with Reality Gives to monitor the Girls Football programme was also asking the girls about their ambitions and dreams.
Despite Dry Day around 30 people came in the afternoon of Sunday, the 1st July to celebrate the Final Football Fest with Reality Gives and internations.org. Twelve teams with two players each participated in the Foosball Competition to win a bicycle tour of Reality Tours and Travel, two Reality Gives bags and a gift from Cool Chef Cafe, the venue of the event. Marten and Paul from Germany won the battle after getting through the group matches, the quarter-final, semi-final and final match of the competition – Congratulations Team “Schlaaaaand”! We had a lot of fun today. Thanks Reality Gives for organizing this.”said Paul after the final match. After the Competition the guests enjoyed a barbecue and watched the final match of the EURO 2012.
The former Football World Cup champion and actor Frank Leboeuf visited Dharavi today, the 25th June 2012 to host a football training for the Reality Gives’ Girls Football Program. Leboeuf is currently in India to present the European Football Championship 2012.
The French Ex-football player who is famous for his performance during the final match of the Football Worldcup 1998 when France won against Brazil 3:0, wanted to use his sports background to address the social issues he sees every day in Mumbai. Reality Gives sees his work with the girls as a huge source of encouragement for them and hopes it will inspire dedication and motivation to the sport.
Two weeks ago we finally started the Yuwa Girls Football Program in Dharavi. Every morning at 6am three coaches receive around 12 to 20 enthusiastic girls in the age of six to 14 in the Reality Gives Community Center in Dharavi. In the following two hours the girls run, sing, play and kick the ball until they are breathless.
