In our communities, English is a key skill for better education and job opportunities. While schools often teach in local languages, most colleges operate in English, creating a barrier for students from low-income backgrounds. Entry-level job interviews also require English proficiency, limiting access to employment.
Our English Program aims to provide students with different levels of English Proficiency based on their needs and aspirations. We use bespoke curricula designed by sector experts and aligned with the internationally recognized Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Classes are held at our Community Centres, led by trained teachers, and are student-centred, focusing on communication and real-life language practice to build confidence and fluency.
Program Details
Our students are children and youth from low-income urban and rural communities who lack access to opportunities for learning, growth, and employment but possess strong motivation to change their lives.
Our programs primarily serve students aged 11 to 21—both schoolgoers and job seekers—but are open to anyone in the community with a desire to learn. We ensure that classes are age-appropriate and tailored to meet specific needs and demands.
The English Program students enrol for three key reasons:
- They dropped out of school early and struggled to find employment.
- They aspire to attend college or get jobs but lack the necessary skills and self-confidence.
- They are women who were taken out of school by their families and want to regain their education— to assert their voice and help their young children
